VILLAGE YOUTH

When there’s nowhere to go

You just drive around town

Music blasting from the stereo

We don’t speak, just listen to the sound

Houses and trees along the street

We pick some people up and bring

Them to our spot where they greet

Us with a shy smile and a drink

The young think I’m old

For the old I’m still young

“Stop reminiscin’”, I’ve been told

But it’s so bittersweet on my tongue

The horizon ends with the next city

We don’t care about tomorrow anyway

It’s just now, it’s just us, it’s nothing pretty

It’s friendship that comes and goes away

I was lucky you took me along for once

And let me have a peek inside

It’s like watching my own past in front

When we freely dealt with time and life

The young think I’m old

Of what it’s like to live and waste
